Vol.III A simple step by step technique of gilding on leather.

I bit my teeth on the traditional English method of gilding on leather, I was taught by a distinguished master of the art of Gilding, Mr.John Mitchell.

I have taken what he taught me, and added what I have learnt during 20 years as a professional bookbinder and come up with a simplified method of gilding onto leather which is aimed at those who are setting out to try gilding onto leather for the first time.

I have created a tutorial which takes you through the process, step by step, each element is fully illustrated with photographs. Contacts are given for suppliers of materials. Here are a few pictures taken from the tutorial.

Everything is included in this tutorial, from how to make your own gilding cushion, to how to tell the correct temperature of your tools for gilding.

Also included is a trouble shooting guide so if you do encounter problems you will have on hand a means of diagnosing the problem and putting it right.

Please do look at the Gilding Equipment for sale pages, there you will find everything you need in the way of equipment.

Again, if you need any back up you only have to email me and I shall give you further advice.

I received my equipment. Wow, the quality is astounding I don't know where in the states I could get tools made this well. The large laying press and finishing press are massive and the sewing frame is to die for. I guess old world craftmanship still lives. I am glad I bought from you instead of buying in America just to get it fast. To have the equipment (made and) delivered within 30 days was not too long to wait. Frank

I received the type holder yesterday, it actually arrived quicker than I thought it would.
Thank you for all your help and for the great customer service, really appreciate it. Bruno

The DVD's arrived last week and I have been glued to the tv screen. I have been busy sharpening my knives the way the DVD teaches, and it works! Great to have really sharp knives. Mac

Just a thank you for your excellent tutorial on clasp making -wonderful. Thanks so much. You're really generous to share your knowledge and skill with us youngsters. Tony
