Superior Bookbinding Equipment

A couple of years ago, quite by chance, I came across some EXTREMELY nice bookbinding equipment that was being made by a small team of cabinet makers in the North of England.

I purchased two items from them, a finishing press and a sewing frame and I was genuinely delighted with the QUALITY of the equipment, which was SUPERIOR IN BOTH FINISH AND CONSTRUCTION to anything from the major suppliers, I know because I have purchased equipment from the big suppliers in the past.

I would have expected this superior quality equipment to be more expensive than the equipment from the large suppliers, in fact it is CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER.

Let me give you an example.

A No 5 medium sized finishing press, 44cms between the screws, from J.Hewit and Sons costs £162.84, this includes tax and shipping to Europe.

A medium sized finishing press, 48cm between the screws from our makers costs £111.35 This includes tax and shipping to Europe.

A CONCRETE SAVING OF £51.49 ON ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!

This claim can be verified by visiting this link to J,Hewits website. Remember you have to add 15% tax and shipping to the price you see.

Similar savings can be realised on other items of equipment, such as sewing frames and lying presses.

Why is it that this equipment, which is superior in build quality to anything made by the major suppliers, is also so much cheaper?

It can only be a question of overheads and accepting a lower profit margin. I bought this equipment myself and wholeheartedly recommend it. You will not find better equipment at this price anywhere in the world!

If you are from the USA and are concerned about shipping costs, let me say that I have seen testimonials from people in the USA who say this equipment is STILL BETTER VALUE THAN EQUIPMENT PURCHASED LOCALLY.

If you would like to know precisely why this equipment is superior you can download a .pdf file which features excerpts of a conversation I had with the makers. click here.

Please note: The makers of this equipment are also able to produce bespoke equipment to your own specification at similarly low prices.

This bespoke equipment is made to order, delivery is about 2 weeks.
