Bookbinding Instructions on
DVD.
I have come to the conclusion over the
years, that apart from regular tuition either one to one or in
a class, the best form of bookbinding
instructions available comes in the form of videos or
DVD's.
Through this medium you can learn at
home and actually see each step of the procedure carried out
and of course you can re run any part of the tutorial when you
need to.
Without wishing to name them I have seen
several video tutorials that had good content, but lacked
professional production. However I am happy to say that we have
discovered a range of DVD's that detail some "key stone"
bookbinding instructions that are packed with great detail
and are professional in both content and production. Indeed
they are a real pleasure to watch.
The author of this range
of bookbinding instructions is Mr. Michael Leroy Chrisman.
Michael has been a professional book binder since 1987 and
has received personal tuition and guidance from Mr.
Bernard Middleton, one of the best known and respected
book restorers in the world.
He spent a year working for the National
Library of Congress from 1999 to 2000.
"You will learn
more in a few hours than in a few years of taking PRICEY
BOOKBINDING classes. With these
teachings Michael shows you what you REALLY NEED, and what is
right for the job, so you don't go broke buying
every (bookbinding) gadget on the
market."
" It is a wonderful introduction
for someone like me who knows nothing. I am sure that
even those with knowledge will also have something to
gain including the wonderful money saving item
shown. My first reaction is that I am not afraid to
get started. Of course I have a lot to learn but what
was shown was not complicated to understand.
This was made even easier by the presenters easy
and relaxed style. I have to say that I was totally
absorbed throughout the DVD."
Please feel free to use the above quote
in whatever way you wish. Jim Openshaw.
We recommend this range of DVD's, each
one is like watching an episode of The Antiques Roadshow, you
will find yourself totally absorbed.
In 2008 Sandy Cohen of the Guild of Book
Workers reviewed this range of DVD's, if you would like a copy
of the review please
Shortly to be added to the existing
range of bookbinding instructions are two new
tutorials, one dealing with the making of a Limp Vellum
binding, the other showing the complete CONSERVATION of a
period binding. These DVD's will then represent THE LARGEST
COLLECTION OF PROFESSIONAL BOOKBINDING TUTORIALS IN THE
WORLD.
Either click the images below or
navigate from the menu on the left to read more about these
instructional manuals.
Please note these DVD's will be sent to
you directly by the author in America.
Due to the number of DVD's being "lost"
when sent to Africa, Italy and Greece we will only send to
these countries by UPS secure delivery, please contact me to
ask for details.
